Tai Chi Class
The American Psychological Association found that 75% of adults reported moderate to high levels of stress in the last month. Stress wreaks havoc on our physical and mental health affecting nearly every system in the body. Stress can be toxic! We all know the stress of our daily lives but if you live in poverty the stress of financial struggles, unsafe living conditions, violent communities and lack of social support can cause chronic stress with devastating results. Additionally, people living in poverty cannot afford to see a counselor for stress; they can't take a yoga, tai chi or stress reduction classes. Therefore, learning to deal with their stress is not typically an option. HMFC wants to help people living in poverty to prevent the diseases caused by stress, so we created a Stress Reduction Class that is free of charge just for them.
HMFC offers a free 12- week Tai Chi class that provides Dr. Lam's Arthritis Management and Falls Prevention. The class is taught by a certified Tai Chi instructor. Tai Chi research indicates that tai chi has the following benefits:
